POV: The Value of Staff Tenure
A client recently expressed frustration because of rampant staff turnover at one of their prime agencies. “We’re constantly meeting new members of our account team and training them on our business. It’s both frustrating and counterproductive.”
“How do you retain your staff?” they asked.
This piqued my pride in Lockard and Wechsler’s exceptional record of staff retention. We boast an average staff tenure of 12.4 years. That stability and cumulative expertise translate directly to long-standing client relationships. Continuity and stability fosters stronger relationships to both colleagues, partners and clients. So, it’s no coincidence that our average client relationship exceeds 12 years as well.
In “The Tipping Point,” Malcolm Gladwell details the importance of 10,000 hours of experience in achieving greatness. On average, each member of our staff has over 19,000 hours of experience. We lead with experience and it pays off with great work, lasting client relationships, growth and profitability. And it doesn’t stop there, we continue to learn and improve every day.
I believe the staff loyalty and longevity stems from LWD’s Founding Principles:
- Credibility is Everything. Nurture it. It’s easy to keep but very hard to get back;
- Be Client Focused;
- Expect Great Work and Great Things Will Happen;
- Treat Others with Respect and As Equals;
- Everyone Has Decision Making Authority, Mistakes Happen – Learn from Them;
- Family and Your Personal Lives Are More Important Than What Happens Here.
Hiring, training and retaining a great staff is a huge differentiator for LWD. We have an incredibly deep and experienced roster when it comes to all phases of performance media planning, buying, research and analysis. Most importantly, staff is our greatest asset and we never take it for granted.
